Finding the courage to be yourself is a lesson everyone hopes their kids learn. But it’s not always easy. That’s part of why this episode’s guest is so refreshing. Jason Dunnigan is a dad to four kids who defies all the conventional “rules” of fatherhood. He does his daughters’ hair, he helps his kids shop for clothes, and he’s a committed fan of reality TV. In this episode, Jason is sharing his secret formula for authenticity that’s earned him quite a following on social media.

Jason started sharing his fatherhood journey on social media as a way to encourage other dads to step outside the box. He grew up with lots of girl cousins who taught him how to braid their hair, and Jason has continued that tradition with his own daughters, doing their hair as often as possible.
But his unique brand of fatherhood isn’t just braids and ponytails. Jason wants his kids to remember him as an active participant in their lives, and the kind of dad who supported them, no matter their desires.
Recently, Jason and his wife, Emily, have stepped into the DIY sphere. During the COVID-19 pandemic they updated their kitchen by painting the cabinets and replacing hardware, before completely gutting and renovating a bathroom. Now they’re working on finishing two rooms in the basement.
Jason hopes other people will see his brand of authenticity and find the courage to express themselves as well. He loves meeting followers out in the “wild”, so if you run into him in the Salt Lake City area, don’t be afraid to say hi.
